What is holistic health?

Holistic health is a natural approach to wellness that understands that the individual exists as a whole interconnected, integrated being. And as a Christian holistic health professional, I understand that we are fearfully and wonderfully made and that our bodies have a God-given capacity for healing and homeostasis. And I am here to support that process. Symptoms in one area do not exist in isolation, but everything is connected, influenced by the rest of the body, mind and spirit. Holistic health does consider the separate parts but always with regard to the entirety of the person. In contrast to the allopathic model, holistic health is also natural. Holistic modalities work with the body's design and not in an opposing, suppressive manner which may relieve symptoms in the short term yet hinder true, lasting healing. It provides a stimulus for the body to heal itself.

What is traditional naturopathy?

Traditional naturopathy also considers the whole person. It is natural health and wellness according to time-tested traditional practices without the use of invasive procedures or chemical drugs. Emphasis is on implementing strong foundations of health, such as quality sleep, movement/exercise, fresh air and sunshine, proper hydration, nutritious diet and stress management. It includes the use of nutritional supplementation, herbal and homeopathic medicines, aromatherapy, nourishing dietary principles, calming breathing techniques, gentle detoxification and more.

What is functional testing?

Functional testing is a valuable tool to help clarify what needs addressed and supported in the body, especially for anyone with a history of complex symptoms. Alongside consultation, the data helps us dig deeper, evaluate the big picture and get to the root causes. We can assess various biomarkers and get the body’s feedback in areas of digestion, inflammation, toxicity, nutritional deficiences, hormone health, oxidative stress and much more from various blood, stool, urine, saliva and hair tests.

Functional analysis then evaluates not only if a particular result is “in range” but where it is in the range or how it measures up in various ratios so we can work toward not only optimal levels, but optimally improved symptoms as well. Functional testing recommendations are made on an individual, as-needed basis and include such tests as hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA), organic acids testing (OAT), comprehensive stool analysis, hormone panels and many other possibilities.

Down Syndrome 101

Several years ago, Trinity School of Natural Health offered me the wonderful opportunity of recording this powerpoint lecture, to benefit both parents and practitioners. It's available for purchase on their website. Enjoy!
